Fantastic Sams Franchise

A Legacy of Innovation. A Future of Opportunity.

For more than five decades, FS Cut & Color has helped shape the salon franchise industry. Founded in 1974 by visionary entrepreneur Sam Ross, our brand introduced the first national full-service salon franchise—creating a business model that combined professional hair care with convenience, value, and exceptional guest service.
Today, we’re proud to be part of Dessange International, one of the world’s leading salon organizations. While our roots are firmly established, our focus remains on the future—continuing to invest in education, technology, marketing, and operational support that help our franchise owners succeed in an ever-evolving industry.
More than 50 years after opening our first salon, we’re still driven by the same purpose: helping passionate entrepreneurs build businesses they’re proud to own.

The Fantastic Sams Story

Our iconic salon brand has deep roots. Early on, founder Sam Ross observed the unique relationship between barbershops and their loyal clientele. Why not offer these reasonably priced services to the whole family?

In July 1974, Ross opened his first full-service hair salon, built on a formula of convenience, affordability and familiarity. In 1976, he began to franchise his concept, making Fantastic Sams the first national full-service hair salon franchise. Ross named the business after a compliment he received from a client after a particularly stylish cut: “That’s fantastic, Sam!”

A Proud Member of the Dessange Group

In 2012, FS Cut & Color became a part of Dessange International, the premium-luxury European salon chain. Dessange helped us innovate our high-end concept, New Image salon. This is a top-to-bottom redesign of the Fantastic Sams salon experience that includes new logos, imagery, and a sleek, ultra-modern salon interior. It’s a high-end salon experience without the high-end salon price.

I tell my salon managers that one of the reasons we’ve been so successful is that we have a balance. My stylists come at the business from a technical side, and I come at it from a customer’s side and from having a background in accounting. I feel like I know the level of customer service people want in salons because I’ve been a customer. Between us we’ve got it all covered.
