Why Buy an Existing Salon?

Compared to starting a new location from scratch, your development costs will be greatly reduced. This means that you won’t have to worry about choosing an untested location.

The Process, from Sale to Start

Potential salon buyers will need to go through the standard FS Cut & Color approval process that includes an application, review of the buyer’s resume, business plan, financial status, review of franchise documents, background check, and, in some cases, interviews with corporate staff.

You can start by buying a single salon, or you may have the option to purchase multiple salons at once.

The cost of each resale salon will be based on the value of the owner’s business. The terms of the sale, including any discounts for buying multiple salons, will be negotiated between you and the previous owner. Our role will be limited to consenting to the transfer, collecting a transfer fee (if applicable), and issuing the necessary documents indicating its consent to the transfer. When the transaction is complete, FS Cut & Color will offer you guidance and approval for you to carry the brand name. When you buy an existing FS Cut & Color salon, you will sign a new franchise agreement. Franchise fees will be determined by the designated market area (DMA) and franchise disclosure agreement.

The timeframe for each sale is different, depending on how long the approval process takes and the amount of time you and the previous owner take to come to terms on your deal. On average, this can take six weeks to 90 days. Then, you’ll be able to take over your new business!

Managing Your New Employees

If you are considering buying a particular FS Cut & Color salon, and once you are in communication with our development team, we highly recommend asking the existing owner if you can visit the salon and meet the employees. It will help you get a feel for the business, the existing staff, and the type of customers who frequent the location. The hair care industry is a human-driven enterprise that can’t be replaced by technology, so it’s always beneficial to meet the people involved.

While FS Cut & Color does not participate in the management of salon employees, we do offer ongoing support, training, and guidance that will help you with your salon-level operations, including franchise resale opportunities. FS Cut & Color franchise owners have the option of becoming owner-operators who manage the business on-site, or multi-unit investors who hire managers to help run the business. Our support team will be on call to help, no matter which management model you choose. We’ll also hold regular meetings and classes to keep your team of stylists on top of the latest trends and techniques.
